Raku Firing Workshop: Friday, January 31st, 6:00-8:30 PM
Join us for a Raku firing workshop! No prior experience necessary.
Participants can either bring their own pieces of handmade bisqueware (1-2 pieces) or buy a piece of bisqueware from us for an additional $10 (participants can pay onsite at the start of the class). If participants bring their own bisqueware, it must be no taller than 12" and no wider than 8".
Raku firing is an exciting and unpredictable pottery technique. Pieces are removed from the kiln while still red-hot and plunged into a combustible material like sawdust or newspaper. This process, called reduction, deprives the glaze or clay of oxygen, creating a stunning array of colors and patterns.
The beauty of Raku lies in its spontaneity. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind creation, influenced by factors like the kiln temperature, the combustible material, and even the potter's technique. The final result is a truly unique work of art, full of surprises and character.
